I like romances. I read widely, but the romantic form of the
narrative tale (romantic in the nineteenth century meaning, not the formula of contemporary times) just about always pleases me the best. That's
probably why one of my favorite magazines is Black Gate. I flipped to the back
to check and see if there was an installment of the comic "Knights
of the Dinner Table." This comic is a must-read for anyone
who is familiar with fantasy. It takes place at a Java Joint
(hence the subtitle)--a book discussion group that seems to
be comprised of two women and a man. All three are types you
see at all the cons. So I'm reading and sipping--and nearly
drown myself when I come across my own name! Is this fame, or
what?

Read and enjoyed the Harry Potter book--further thoughts in
my Harry Potter riff on the YA page. No spoilers, just: I like
this one best, I think, and I also think that the ending is
not what it seemed. There, is that cryptic enough>
Two excellent books read, Madeleine Robins' Petty Treason and
Isabel Allende's Zorro. Both set about the same period, one
in London, the other in Alta California and Spain. Both with
excellent period sense, fascinating storylines, and in especial
wonderful women characters. Contrasting narrative devices, which
both serve their particular storyline admirably.
