How Do I Get an Agent? (Note: I did not write this, it is a superb posting on the site of Neil Gaiman with excellent advice from an editor at Tor Books, Teresa Nielsen Hayden, so believe what they say!

And an esay I could have written, so close to my own experience as it is, by Justine Larbalestier, who wrote the wonderful Magic or Madness. Specifically for young writers anxious to publish NOW, read Too Young to Publish on her blog.

Fanfiction Policy

Policy on fanfiction using my worlds and characters. Some authors object to fanfiction altogether. I do not--I think it a flattering sign that people wish to experience my world for a little longer by posing stories there, and I'm grateful that people have enough interest to want to imagine their own characters in my world, or what mine might have done. I do ask that you place the "good faith" disclaimer on your work. The characters and world are mine--I've been working on them for over forty years, and CD is only a tiny portion of the main whole. I don't read fanfics, partly because I am always behind in projects due to tough dayjob demands, partly because I often find tiny errors of fact that the authors couldn't possibly know about, not having access to my atlas, my timelines, and all 135 of my notebooks--so canon is reality for me!
